Samuels Elementary and ShareLingo
A Big, Big Thank-You!
The ShareLingo Project would like to thank Samuels Elementary for bringing Hampden South (South East Denver) neighborhood residents together to break cultural barriers through language exchange. Last Friday, May 6th, marked the end of a 10-week ShareLingo class. The class was developed by The ShareLingo Project and funded by Denver Public Schools. The ShareLingo Project is a community engagement program that helps English and Spanish speakers connect with each other. The ShareLingo Project is helping schools succeed and improve parental engagement by connecting teachers and parents to learn from and teach each other English and Spanish while sharing their cultural values.
The class is made up of English and Spanish speakers that are paired together to help each other. English speakers improve their Spanish and Spanish speakers improve their English – all while learning about each other’s culture and background. The project ended with a class of 10 students working together, and students received a certificate of completion.
On the last day of class students were asked to evaluate the class, and rate it on several key questions on a scale from “Not at all” to “Above and Beyond!” . Please see below:
Students felt very strongly that the ShareLingo method is effective for language learning. . They strongly agreed that the facilitator and the ShareLingo team went above and beyond in being knowledgeable and helping them with the learning experience, and giving them great service and attention. They felt that the course materials and resources were very helpful and clear.
Other Comments Made by Individual Students
“I really liked the singing. We should learn a song every time and sing them all when we begin.”
“I really like to learn with someone who also is learning just like me. I think we should keep learning this way. I love this, it’s great!”
“I would like to do this course over the summer!”
The ShareLingo concept is really simple. Instead of learning from a white board or a computer, we help English learners meet Spanish learners for face-to-face practice together. A bilingual facilitator uses our method and materials to keep things moving so you are never bored. We have language learning solutions for individuals, businesses, non-profits, and schools.
